A Winter's Night

Snow, it is falling Down, outside your darkened door It's calling to you It's time, something tells you Inside, you've been here far too long It's time now to leave So step outside and taste that cold night air The whole world's waiting just out there Don't look back into the fading light The winter all dressed in white Has reached out for you So following down silent suburb streets Into the forest there we'll meet In the trees, all around, You can hear a single sound The machine of the earth Humming far beneath the ground below 'Neath fresh white sheets of snow Then the wind rushes in And the dead leaves start to spin Faster now, through the night They will whisper as they pass you by Of the great engine of time Then, only silence The snow will soon melt in the sun With all that you've seen And like all moments, this will soon be gone Still something lingers past the dawn 'Cause when you wake in the night And you think about your life Pictures fly through your mind That kaleidoscope still twisted by The great engine of time
