A Year and a Day

They say certain things just come with age I never realized how much I changed 'Till I looked back on the texts we sent Thinking back to the time I spent Hating myself and loving him Didn't know where he ended was where I'd begin But I never wanna go back to then Life can switch paths just like that And if I could go back just a year and a half I'd see a reflection I've never seen since then Something I wish I'd never been When all I wanted was a friend and some self respect I'm so glad that came to an end because I neglected myself and pushed it all away What a difference a year and a day can make My independent heart was just a lie I told And I see that now that I'm older Winter was always colder in my heart My soul intertwined and then fell apart He was all I had and he threw me away 'Cuz he knew that I'd stay Life can switch paths just like that And if I could go back just a year and a half I'd see a reflection I've never seen since then Something I wish I'd never been When all I wanted was a friend and some self respect I'm so glad that came to an end because I neglected myself and pushed it all away What a difference a year and a day can make I've known such empty and lonliness I was never at my best But I can assure you I'm doing fine now
