eldom did I see, on life's edge dance, A butterfly's rare magic quite as yours - The waves' spray gently touched your smile And in a moment's never ending gaze - I died. Time follows us like shadow blind Though in due course It pulls our souls and shifts a path Where none imagined you before So wondrous did we peel the seconds off with words Exchanging sparks of life between our lips. I held your hand for oh too short a time - Sometimes eternity is lost when it's unseen. The sun passed over us and shone along the water The stars blessed too when hours long we dreamed like kids at night. I wished to pull you closer oh so many times But wondering at your beauty - told me still to wait. A lifetime passed when close we gently kissed - And on the other side your hand and touch felt as it should. There was so much I still was eager to pour out and share And deepest friendships' net felt safe and asked for patience. Oh had I known how rare those moments were, how fleeting fast - I think I'd never let you leave And now the mirror of past moments starts to dull and fall I try to catch what feels so lost and catch it not. When in those moments of a shared long memory I touched your hair and felt your curious thoughts In gentle palm that touched and followed journey yours- I did not know what price I'd have to pay for memories So far away now, and so precious dear. So rare is it to see a mind invent a reason For life to live and joy to share and happiness - So clear, so simple and so perfect known, As if I lived a thousand lifetimes in your past - And millions in the moments shared.
