Magical Movie Moment II

The first time I saw you was on stage Vibrant and beautiful and cool With a smile that would light up a room Everyone's favorite girl Stuck in a mad world And who wouldn't fall in love With someone like you With the voice and the eyes and the face But I never thought I'd join the craze 'Cause I'll be honest I know that even at my peak I always knew you were out of my league You're still a goddess and I'm Well, I'm this guy Here, on the ground Feet planted pretty solid The data is pretty sound And so I didn't think of you much for years But then you played a concert and after a couple beers We shared a magical movie moment And I tried to freeze it and hold it And it felt like The taste of you was on the tip of my tongue (Though I don't know it) Like a thought, I almost had Like a question, I almost knew the answer to But I guess you were always a performer To me But it wasn't you, you see I guess to me you never really left that stage And I'm at that age Where I have to admit to myself That sometimes I'm still not fully aware That even though how much I care Sometimes I fare Blind into the night And I just don't get it right And I guess I saw my own manic pixie dream But you kept ripping open the seam 'Cause I expected you to be things to me That you never promised to be And sometimes I just get really intense And I struggle with sense And I felt so left behind And like you were so unkind And when I told you all of this Through poetry Like a coward You apologized And I realized I was doing what so many others had done to you before I'd convinced you that somehow you had a flaw Some kind of ice heart that couldn't thaw But life for you has never been a breeze And I was supposed to be easy At least that's what I claim My biggest aim Is to make you feel safe and warm But I lost control and was causing you harm I made you think that you weren't trying your hardest I guess I'm as manipulative as any artist And I'm so fucking sorry Which is why I had to add this story 'Cause in a way Our magical movie moment Was just as well for you But you thought you found a friend A safe haven A port A first and last resort Who expected nothing of you but that you were trying But I guess I was lying Both to myself and to you But I don't want this to undo What we try to do Every day Which is that every day We try to see the best In each other And everyone else Even those who might not deserve it And I'm happy to call myself your friend From now on and 'till the end If you'll have me 'Cause I'm sorry And I know now what I was doing And I don't want it to ruin The fact that you're getting better If you'll still let me I'm happy to be your tether The first time I saw you was on stage But the first time I really saw you was when you felt safe with me And I'm not sure if I deserved your vulnerability I hope you accept my apology 'Cause I love you and always did I was just being kind of a shit
