Tell your friends you love them Tell your friends you love them Tell them when they smile at you And tell them when they don't Tell them you'll be here for them When everyone else won't The world needs explanations and excuses It just uses and uses and uses But look around and find yourself surrounded by love Your friends are here when push comes to shove One of my friends made me believe in magic and stars Showed me her scars And I love her not for what she can do for me Or give to me or be for me But for how she makes me a better person How she makes me want to prove to her every day That this place can be okay That there's still flowers growing And artists showing Up for the world The universe unfurled And left at my feet To walk hand in hand Into our promised land Where she reminds me of the importance of the choices I make The people I take with me Who'll be there when I ache And another of my friends made me believe in our dreams Taught me anyone's only ever as good as their teams I love him because he doesn't see a roof When I'm with him we're bulletproof New ideas 'till sunrise Lighting up the night Rolling a handful of dice Knighting up the fight Then there's one who always thought I could be better than I was Who found a home in the comfort of us I love her now and forevermore I loved her on the longest night on the emergency room floor Where I thought I almost lost her I love her 'cause even when I was a far distant friend She never let this friendship end So I'll tell my friends I love them The ones who are far away and the ones around the corner The ones I sometimes miss and the ones I used to kiss The ones from long ago and the ones I just met The ones with the smiles and the ones with the hurt Very few things in my life make me proud But one thing I'll say loud My friends are the family we should all wish to be All of them growing every day, finding their way Showing me it's okay And I finally believe them when they say They love me 'Cause I spent so many years feeling lonely and left behind And I couldn't believe when people said they cared I couldn't appreciate the love we shared I never felt I knew what to say or what to do Always felt like I was getting surprised by something new But by filling it with the best of friends I've made a home in my chest And so many of them loved me first Before I knew how And now I sometimes feel my heart might burst Like all the love wants out So I'll shout At my friends that I love them I'll hug them and I'll hold them And honestly I might hug them longer than I'm supposed to But if when we die we're judged by if we hugged enough I want to be sure St. Peter can't hold it against me And if when we die our lives just flash in front of your eyes Wouldn't you prefer as much of it as possible to be love? So please Tell your friends you love them When they need it and when they don't Tell your friends you love them When they're trying their best And when they're failing their hardest And when they double text you And when they remember the little details And when they need you to And tell them again when they don't Tell your friends you love them And make sure they feel it too
