A Crude Imitation

Duality of man Agony of mind Personality split in two Struggling to become one Liquid confidence becomes liquid fear Endless heights become bottomless depths Radiant happiness turning into pure depression Panic gripping my chest and throat A planet that was once so warm Now chills me to the bone My body that was once so strong Now cannot even feed itself I once lived in a world of dreams Now sleep forever evades me I shiver and whimper A weak and useless creature I am The perfectionist was my best friend But now there is no end, no hope, no escape from his poisonous grasp He has filled me with doubt and fear Forever killing the artist within A smart boy he used to be Now crippling thoughts have laid waste to my mind Insecurities and fears run deep within him So, his pride shall conquer all who try to ruin me An empty shell, they would never know A life of nothing, but not what others see Mental illnesses gone unchecked Paranoia corrupting all that I see My head, torn asunder These thoughts, they never stop racing The therapists, they will never save me Strength through solitude Alter ego consuming me Broken mask starts slipping Family and friends dying one by one Never to be seen again Years of trial and growth Wasted away before my eyes Years of suffering and pain Washed away as he died I am all but a stranger now in his eyes His memory forever erased His heart and soul forever trapped In this dark nightmarish jungle "Do you not remember me young one?" My spirit cries out in despair "Our journey does not end here!" He said not a single word But when he finally looked into my eyes I saw in them the death of civilizations He was death itself The hunter and the prey Reunited at last Temptations running high He takes his rightful place in the world A shapeshifter by nature He's gone with the wind Corrupted by power He drinks to the dead A sinful man he has now become A crude imitation forever he'll be
