Easter Flowers

I closed my eyes and found myself inside my childhood home It was Easter morning I was looking out my window I saw something that scared me Your parents walking toward me In their Easter clothes Oh no I must admit I was in disbelief when your mom walked up to me She handed me some flowers that came from April showers She told me how you're doing And how she thinks you blew it And we both cried Oh my I always said that you didn't owe me anything But I'm starting to think that I deserved a little more I always said that you could up and leave But I didn't think you'd do it at the end of the world To a shell of a girl I realize now that everything you said still messes with my head Suddenly I'm older and picturing how you'd hold her You to her to Ikea And you shot down her ideas And then you disappeared Oh dear I always said that you didn't owe me anything But I'm starting to think that I deserved a little more I always said that you could up and leave But I didn't think you'd do it at the end of the world To a shell of a girl You didn't seem to care when my dog died So why would you care when I started losing my mind
