Old Sensations

Do you remember How we walked out to the barn Beneath a canopy of stars And in the company of cats and horses We poured out our hearts We were singing we were longing We were stitching up our scars And I still think about our music When I walk out to that barn Do you remember When we got into our shower stalls And turned off all the lights And in the dark and steam filled room Opened the window And looked out at the night We were laughing we were dreaming Throwing wishes at the sky And years later when I shower I still turn off all the lights And as I walk familiar roads I stop to catch my breath As things I had forgotten Come back into my head And when I walk familiar roads I never feel alone My heart has kept these memories Preserved within my bones Do you remember Losing track of time And making ourselves late Racing together down that hill As the clock read 9:58 Beating hearts were beating faster And the wind was in our hair And I still run down that hill at night Sometimes when I am there And back when we lived out those days It was just normal life Wrought with beauty and complaining And the joy of youthful strife But in the rearview mirror As the years have passed us by I see how blissful of a moment Were those four years of our lives And all those old sensations Break like waves upon a beach Filling me with past emotions Knocking the wind from me Don't ever say to me that youth Is wasted on the young These memories will fill my soul For many years to come
