Can I place my trust in you as the wildflowers do? My spirit knows deeply the care you've shown and although I know I'm held within your hands, can I trust that he will be in your other one? I worry, that when love turns to fear in the span of a moment, the unconditional constant that family presents becomes a rocky foundation on which our feet stumble We were never much for dancing Can I trust that you'll clothe him in love like the lilies of the field That his soft heart stays so, fertile soil upon which your spirit can grow I know that regardless of me your will be done, seeds planted, dug holes begun But even if I can find him only in the memory of what was and what could have been Can I see, truly, the good that can come Of a love I've lost? He was and is the only one with whom I foresaw forever And I'm sorry to you, my beautiful once-love I thought I needed a romance like Achilles and Patroclus, like Apollo and Hyacinthus, beautiful, tragic, eternal A "bury my bones next to yours" kind of amor In my ever-growing age, and as years become discernment, I've realized that I've not sacrificed enough for your sake He has a plan for you written in the stars, and I feel that I've been but a hindrance My desire to watch you become has stunted your becoming A love that is less like a poem and more like an epic Can he place his trust in You, as I do? Though this life has presented us a hurricane, full of raging winds and damning floods, and in the midst of the storm we've been cast away Can he find his identity in you?
