Longest Day of the Year

Some see a killer, I see a friend Scars on the outside, plenty more within No idea where he's going, but he sure knew where he'd been So we opened up our door and we let him in I've seen this movie, you've seen it too I know how it ends before we're halfway through So I count down the minutes, I know you're counting them too Living in the moment's so hard to do I'm higher than a satellite or that Chinese spy balloon And he's lonelier than a liquor store on a Sunday afternoon We get along just fine but I am finding myself terrified He's 60 pounds of muscle, teeth, and the softest yellow eyes I woke up this morning and I knew it was time Pretend things are normal, say my goodbyes So I count down the minutes till he closes his eyes It's the last time and he don't even realize I'm lower than a coal mine or a snowman in the month of June He's lonelier than a liquor store on a Sunday afternoon The church bells they are ringing, I guess I gotta get home soon I won't be caught out in the sunshine with a killer on the loose It's the longest day of the year I can't wait till tomorrow, I'll get the hell outta here So I count down the minutes till I can't see the sun And that mother and child reunion I know there's a mother and child reunion
