People of the Book

When I was young I pondered All these questions in my head Why are we here? What do I do? What's the deal with life? Will I ever be as tall as my dad? Will he disappear And will I too? Well mom always says it's okay Just follow the book She says it's not just a cliché You just got to look All you got to do is be compliant 'Cuz you don't have a clue Just follow the rules and be quiet The truth will come to you But the People of the Book are silent I don't have a clue When the People of the Book are silent Who do you turn to? What is life what's after death? The book that you hold It will tell you Just look inside Take a deep breath Don't try to be bold Just accept what's true But what about the other books That also make claims to the absolutes? Well they're wrong They're obviously wrong If it's not my book then just go die 'Cuz those are not the way If it's not my book then it's a lie That's what my parents say All you got to do is be compliant 'Cuz you don't have a clue Just follow the rules and be quiet The truth will come to you But the People of the Book are silent I don't have a clue When the People of the Book are silent Who do you turn to? I mean it's not like individuals have different perspectives and ideas In how they see the world It's not like their worldview is shaped by Nurture, their environment, and their personality And they would have a worldview that compliments all of those factors No no no If they don't follow my book They should be tortured And burned alive 'Cuz because all of those other books They're wrong and their fake and they're Ree Ree Ree Hey ya Oh oh oh oh Hey ya Oh oh Oh oh oh oh Hey ya Oh oh oh oh Hey ya Oh oh Oh oh oh oh Oh oh All you got to do is be compliant 'Cuz you don't have a clue Just follow the rules and be quiet The truth will come to you But the People of the Book are screaming in silence What do you see? If this search for truth is now a power struggle What truth will come to me? To me Oh oh oh oh I don't know what's true what's there to admit? 'Cuz the Book blinds you but you're lost without it
