Five Seconds To Midnight

I walked and walked along the shore Wondering if there was something more To this existence and resistance and resilience in staying alive And there along came a sage wise man Wise in itself, unquestionable You may wonder why I say he was wise, but he was, just because And he told me that if I loved someone, then I fulfilled my part I nodded and I asked, but then, why this heavy feeling in my heart? Like something is not right And he said Can't you see? It's five seconds to midnight I kept walking inland and I walked so much I don't know to where So different animals, different people, ones here and others there Doing what they could, in a cold world where we all suffer to survive And some times less, some times more, I'd see people prostrate By a plague that was transmitted through minds And they'd tell me stories of fights over every and any and no thing Tearing apart what once was Most of the time for no reason, and I asked why? And they said Can you hear it? It's five seconds to midnight And in the distance I saw a glow so intense it didn't seem natural And when I got closer I saw this figure clad in gold Struggling to stay upright He looked proud and bold, but greed had to be in him To bend over before relinquishing the jewels that bent him down Why all this gold? Why don't you drop it? I hurled at his confused stare And he told me he conquered all that And before he would give all that trash up he rather die And in my heart it was true indeed We are five seconds away from midnight
