Misunderstood

I be sitting reminiscing on time gone Wish I could go and right all my wrongs But it's gone, And we moved on You live and you learn, but some still wanna do wrong I let them do them, I hope you let me be wrong When I make mistakes, I talk about them in songs Used to ride around like it's all good Under the street lights, misunderstood Remember every time someone fired up a grill You could smell it in the air, that's when summer got real That's when summer had a feel, you let go of struggles Eating good food and laughing with the people that love you Now they hate and disrespect, look how we look at each other I see you stand a little taller when you know that they suffer We love our enemies but hate our families that be there Treat them like strangers and then complain when they don't really care I can say I struggle with it, I need to see y'all more often Don't wanna see wasted opportunities laid in a coffin We get consumed with life and worry about pleasing our bosses That we really don't take the time to even deal with our losses You can't get these monuments back And you can't get these moments back So cherish them you'll never get them back Life, it got me thinking, what am I doing There's enough rappers, I need to do better no confusion I wanna say something to my kids kids in the future Everything's going to be OK, keep going and keep pushing Cuz my father had to live through segregation and Jim Crow And we living through James Crow Esquire Martin Luther King, everything he did, backfired My mother lived in DC down the street from the riots Don't ever let them silence you don't let them make you be quiet Cuz you may be misunderstood, but just keep riding Under the street lights
