He wakes up every morning Eyes are heavy, sleep is thin Counting every penny Wondering where to begin The coffee's getting colder But his hands, they start to shake 'Cause he knows today's another Chance for something to break Every hour feels like a year Every breath, a battle with fear His heart's racing in the quiet night Another war he can't win inside He's on the edge, afraid to fall Holding tight to nothing at all He's losing sleep, losing his mind Fear keeps him frozen in time Every day is just the same old fight A prisoner to the long, dark night He used to dream of better days But now they seem so far away Staring at the ceiling While his thoughts begin to fray He's got a family waiting Counting on his strength But every step he's taking Feels like another length His laughter's just a broken sound His smile's been buried in the ground He's caught up in the in-between Of what was real and what's unseen He's on the edge, afraid to fall Holding tight to nothing at all He's losing sleep, losing his mind Fear keeps him frozen in time Every day is just the same old fight A prisoner to the long, dark night And he whispers in the dark "Is there more than this?" A spark of hope, a faint desire In the midst of the abyss But shadows keep on calling And doubt, it lingers near He's drowning in the silence Of his own unspoken fear He's on the edge, afraid to fall Holding tight to nothing at all He's losing sleep, losing his mind Fear keeps him frozen in time Every day is just the same old fight A prisoner to the long, dark night But maybe someday he'll find the light Maybe someday he'll win this fight Until then, he'll keep hanging on To the edge of hope, till the fear is gone
