SELF-CONSCIOUS

I've been running circles in my head And I still ain't found an exit from this path I've led But maybe if I let go of the thoughts that offend Then my mind will be free of the bind that it's in Yeah the last song I wrote was about relationships Guess I did that to just try and really get a grip On the fact that I can't hold em' more than a month Am I afraid to commit? I got a hunch Yeah, slim lanky dude, been this way my whole life Don't spit a lot of game and been told I'm too nice Cause' all of this and more, it seems that nobody sees The value, the purpose, of building life with me Plus I'm lacking patience, lacking roots, always on the move Overt confidence and energy to try to set the mood I'm aware of these flaws, just hoping that I can show The person who I am and how I'm trying to grow Self-Conscious, since the day I was born Self-Conscious, as I age I'm only getting more Self-Conscious, about the person that I am Self-Conscious, gotta break on through this mental dam But verse one just scratched the surface Of what's holding me back, from pursuing my purpose Cause' I've had a privileged life with moral support Yet still get the feeling that I'm always falling short And truth be told, happiness is subjective Cause' It's our mental states that determine perspective Could have all the blessings in the world but still not see em' So work with what you got, carpe diem Even did an Ironman to try and build up strength But the finish line changed my perspective of length Saw the race of life has no definitive end Went 140 miles just to end where I began So If you're feeling down, low on life, a little recluse Just take a look around and soon you'll find the truth That we're all self-conscious to a different extent And none of us are perfect, far from heaven sent Self-Conscious, since the day I was born Self-Conscious, as I age I'm only getting more Self-Conscious, about the person that I am Self-Conscious, gotta break on through this mental dam Could spend days and days listing every insecurity Cause' life's a maze, but all you'd ever learn from me Is that they're all really a projection of your mind And after due reflection you'll feel better in time And if they talk down on your flaws then f*ck em' Cause' they also got their own dark clouds above em' So imma say what I like, and like that Em line I'm outie Tell these people something that they don't know about me
