Battle at the Gates

With a rosary hung on my neck I've arrived at the pearly gate There's an angel standing here I guess Peter is on break And I cried to that man Please don't you understand Heaven's not the place for me Nor is Hell my home for eternity If God truly loved his children He'd let me become undone! Now my brother please try to listen I know of your morbid visions But here is a place you can truly relax And find that unknown joy perhaps! For God does love his children And he made entire worlds for them Oh sir you've misheard my pleas I simply don't want immortality No matter how lovely this land is It would still force me to exist So if creatures like you have a heart Won't you watch me fall apart? Far too beautiful to disappear Can't you see my eyes fill with tears? I can love what I barely know And I'll preserve you even though I envy your search for the void And the freedom that it could afford So I put my rosary around his neck And pulled him close to m I knew he wanted destruction too So I planted a kiss on his cheek And within his arms we fell Away from those shining gates Upwards to a place unknown As we felt ourselves disintegrate
