Broke a Mirror

Sat at the foot of a chapel She's come to find herself With shoulders bare and lips that lie She won't go inside Prolonging the climb to the door She paints herself in red Feeding the crow that picks at her side But she won't go inside. They say this place is littered with answers They'll leave her just as bitter as they find her That's even if she makes it to the altar The sandbags on her feet might make her falter She tried to be clean but it lingered That scarlet mark left on her dress The stench of desire a young one can't hide She can't go inside. And so she walks to the river To see herself in its bed A mirror reveals that she's sanctified And she must go inside- Someone take her inside They say she takes after her mother The way she gravitates towards the water They say there's nothing wrong about her So why then must she force herself to enter Sat at the foot of a chapel Her blessing past the door She'll bathe in holy water and come out drier than before.
