Dead Ol' Grass

Settled here and all I feel is the green green grass Modern and tall as soft as the yellow of the stars above I love it here, for pockets of time When comfort surrounds where's the fear in life Half asleep sunken deep in the dead ol' grass It's a hug of home so warm i'm unaware time has passed I loved it there, it's what the child in me longs for she doesn't want to share home with the life she's hoped for I'm torn I'm torn I'm torn I'm torn Cause I'd take it all back in a heartbeat That bored street Thought leaving would complete somethin' in me The dead inside needed a breath of green to feel alive If i'm in this field for nothing that's ok Grief with a view is better anyway When I was the young dumb version of me I wanted the other side of green I've crossed the line feeling behind can't compete They've been friends of fame from the start And time may be free But a sign that says how much I have left will never be I'm torn Don't think I should have ever tried I was the king of the land I left behind I'd take it all back in a heartbeat That bored street Thought leaving would complete somethin' in me The dead inside needed a breath of green to feel alive If I'm in this field for nothing thats ok Grief with a view is better anyway Will southern dirt miss me while i'm away The dew of the new seemed solid gold But I look back and wonder what was ever wrong with the old Settled here writing goodbye dear to the dead ol' grass You've been a friend but I think our time has passed The Lord met me there but i've been called to follow Him here so until tomorrow
