Remembrance

To lay down within the grass Closing eyes in this place of rest To calm the storm, to recollect To gaze up into the trees Through to the ever-changing clouds To drift much farther away Far from this place Though the sun has passed Somehow there's peace at last In the quiet all around These memories etched in stone In their cold finality Are all that's left, and now Not one soul is left To drift into the blackness of night Distant sea filled with burning lights The past alive, to remember To feel inferno smoulder within Consumed in anguish, left to yearn To drift much farther away Far from this place To feel the stiffness of the grass The blades gently stabbing fingertips To feel the coolness of the breeze The chill on the skin flowing within The sea calleth to the sea
