1805 was a long rough year That winter so cold I don't wanna stay here I wanna be yonder way back home I'll stay right there no more to roam But Clark got a cause like a man at war He stopped on the way back I don't know what for With the Walla Walla people we laid some nights We danced in the dust and the fire and light And they gave Clark a White horse White horse Clark pulled from his hip a long shine blade For my people to yield this offer I made Chief Yellow Pit smiled and was satisfied We'd wake next morning and off we'd ride White horse White horse Next morning we woke to a cloudy day In the midst of the night the horses went stray We spent daylight to gather them round Clark's new white horse nowhere to be found And I wonder now in a haunting way If the horse knew better than us to stay For she got one wiff of the white man's way And ran off free in the desert sage White horse White horse
