In a Song

Sometimes I wish that I could press rewind I'd just go back to that place and replay it one more time It used to be a field where I could feel so wild and free We'd crawl underneath a barbed wire fence to follow that old creek Sometimes in the summer when we'd get to feeling brave We'd grab the tent poles and a canvas and find a spot there in the shade We'd set up far enough away to still see the back porch light We'd make bets to see which one of us could make it all through the night I keep these memories in a pocket of my mind With all the places I hold dear captured in another time I can't go back there, cause it's gone So I'll remember it in a song Sometimes I wish I could sit out on that porch And listen to him tellin' stories of how he made it through the war He'd point up to heavens after he'd turned down all the lights We'd see more stars than we could count as we looked out into the night I keep his memory in a pocket of my mind.
