10 Years Ago

I'd almost forgotten How my yard looks from the street Forgot there was a time When people used to meet The world has changed a lot Since I was eight years old And the scary thing is That was only ten years ago Ten years ago When I was climbing every tree When my biggest fear Was getting stung by a bee The difference between the past and now Is the past will never change There's comfort in the thought of things Always staying the same But some things only last as long As leaves stay on trees And they're just as beautiful When they fly off in the breeze I look back ten years ago And I see how much I've grown And I wonder what I'll think When today was ten years ago There was a time when my little pink bike Could show me the whole world When the cost of gas Was the least of my concern And every night I'd stay up Wide awake in my bed And tell myself every crazy story That popped into my head Ten years ago When I was climbing every tree When my biggest fear Was getting stung by a bee The difference between the past and now Is the past will never change There's comfort in the thought of things Always staying the same But some things only last as long As leaves stay on trees And they're just as beautiful When they fly off in the breeze I look back ten years ago And I see how much I've grown And I wonder what I'll think When today was ten years ago Seasons change As the earth moves around the sun And as one ends The next has only just begun Ten years ago When I was climbing every tree When my biggest fear Was getting stung by a bee I will hold onto that But move forward because I know That today is the yesterday Tomorrow will hold close Because some things only last as long As leaves stay on trees And they're just as beautiful When they fly off in the breeze I look back ten years ago And I see how much I've grown And I wonder what I'll think When today was ten years ago
