Fishermen's Tale

And we laughed til we cried Hearing the older man's tale Boldened by drink he tried Convincing us not to set sail In the night, on the lake In the hopes that our fortune might change Where a beast, still does creep For stray fishermen that it might eat Well Who cares what he says? He's out of his mind Or hiding no doubt the best Haul that we could hope to Find Hey! And we fell from the bar Laughing our way to the shore Now the boat wasn't far We cast off and made our way for Fortune fair, even though The weather was not quite so In my mind, on the waves The old man's words quietly rang Well Who minds a quick storm? For our weight in gold Might I remind you that Fortune does favor the Bold And we rode through the waves Til we found that wretched place When we sent out our nets The catch brought a smile to my face There were fish huge and perfect Neither of us had seen Scales so healthy and beautiful Glowing a brilliant gleam From bubbling foam the mother rose Ready for her dinner Her maw clamped down from underneath And reduced the boat to splinters A lure was cast, on my best friend To greet those great jaws of hell With no goodbye he met his end Beneath its powerful spell But I made my escape Was all night I swam Im Doomed to be doubted in The judging cold eyes of Man Hey And they laughed til they cried
