Out of the shade, into the streets, into the sunlight Where bustling crowds swarm every lane and every square Merchants and guards, artisans, bards, crowds on all streetsides A river of people reaching everywhere Apricot trees, olives, and palms, fountains, and temples Horses and goats, cedar and wine, spices and myrrh Women and men, elders and youth, dancers and vendors Around every corner, around every turn Does this city have all the riches of the world? Bathed in the southern sun What if I see the Hanging Gardens or something unheard-of A wonder that remains unknown? It seems like this is where the Sun comes from every day Where ancient paths coalesce to birth a new better way Where gods can walk among the mortals, like you and me Where every night bears a dawn that will be nascent and free Statues and gates, wonderful games I never heard of Towers and walls, warriors with swords, banners and spears Courtyards and malls, curious eyes behind every curtain Laughter and din, hubbub, chatter and cheers Merchants from far mysterious lands trade silver mirrors Opal and black obsidian frames gleam in the shade In the reflections, I'm dressed like a queen, a voluptuous princess Barely clothed, I'm sovereign, unashamed Does this city have all the riches of the world?
