A Scene from a Western

No rain fell down or thunder shook the sky Only lightning in the form of lead No feeling of regret nor weight upon my back Only smoke that lingered in the air Then the wind picked up, the smoke cleared The sky turned red showing blood was shed What beast lurks deep within me Woke then when I held you in my hands? When the fire leaped from my fist A sigh escaped my lips and I knew That even though I felt the weight I'd bear the burden without complaint I never asked for this though I bear it proudly There is no escape from the beast that stirs When gunpowder burns When lead splits the air and smoke stings your eyes There is no escape from the beast that stirs When gunpowder burns A hole is torn, life has fled Where blood runs red, now lay the dead What beast lurks deep within me Woke then when I held you in my hands?
