AMERICAN DREAMER Raised in Britain, yeah the formerly great ’til the Sun and the Mail taught a nation to hate So you plan your escape, write your schedule for life And you take what you need, find your husband or wife And then you set out your stakes on the 4th of July And you move to the States where the limit’s the sky But you can’t get a job but you can live in denial ‘cos you may be flat broke but you can do that in style Oh the grass as they said will be greener again Oh the optimist, oh you’re my best friend ‘cos you follow your heart and you pursue your dreams But the pasture you found ain’t as green as it seems And so you set up your shop with the great and the good In the land of the free, believe that if I could ‘cos they built quite a lot and yeah they always aim higher But what have they made? And is it much to admire?
