| Hasankeyf (Arabic: حصن كيفا Ḥiṣn Kayfa‘, Kurdish: Heskîf, Armenian: Հարսնքվ Harsnk’v, Greek: Κιφας, Kiphas, Latin: Cepha, Syriac: ܚܣܢܐ ܕܟܐܦܐ, romanized: Ḥesno d-Kifo) is an ancient town and district located along the Tigris River in the Batman Province in southeastern Turkey. It was declared a natural conservation area by Turkey in 1981.Despite local and international objections, the city and its archaeological sites have been flooded as part of the Ilısu Dam project. By 1 April 2020, water levels reached an elevation of 498.2m, covering the whole town. |
