My Musical Journey

In February 1964 I saw the Beatles on my tv Just as soon as I heard them play I knew just what I was meant to be Then I met Rick Jim and John and we formed a little rock and roll band And it was right there in south Tacoma that my musical journey began We played all over Tacoma for anyone who would let us in We played a lot of rock we played a little country and everything in between About the time things had just got started and we were really starting to groove The clouds of change came blowing in and it was time for me to move Take your show on the road wherever you've got to go Play your songs for everyone you see Play this old guitar in places near and far A rock and roll musician is what you were meant to be I did my time in the army where I learned to be a one-man band Played at bases all over the country and even Tokyo, Japan When I came home I found Jim and Rick and we played a little tavern run Though it didn't last long our music was strong and it was there where we had the most Fun Then once again the clouds of change came rolling into town I moved on to Abilene, Texas and it turned my life upside down I was accepted into a band called glass and played all over the state With Bobby Charles and Marsha we really had something great Take your show on the road wherever you've got to go Play your songs for everyone you see Play this old guitar in places near and far A rock and roll musician is what you were meant to be After ten years down in Texas I thought my playing days were done We packed up everything we owned and moved back to Washington Then one day as luck would have it I met Jackie and Luis We became three chord progressives and we sang for justice and peace We sang for meetings large and small on both sides of the state And it brought back all those feelings and reminded me of my fate And so we come full circle as shady day reunites As Rick and I really start to fly and take us to new heights Now Rick is gone but I'm still carrying on playing music for all to hear Now it's really been a journey and I've loved every year Take your show on the road wherever you've got to go Play your songs for everyone you see Play this old guitar in places near and far A rock and roll musician is what you were meant to be I'm gonna take my show on the road wherever I've got to go I'm gonna play my songs for everyone I see I'm gonna play this old guitar in places near and far A rock and roll musician is what I was meant meant to be
