Passover moon broad and full shining from a cloudless sky Pilgrims' tents were hushed in the silence of the night Jesus came to a garden called Gethsemane Said to his disciples sit ye here while I go and pray My soul is exceedingly sorrowful Even unto death tarry ye here Watch with me Chorus: O My Father if this cup may not pass away from me Except I drink it thy will be done thy will be done And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven Strengthening strengthening him And being in agony he prayed more earnestly And his sweat was as it were great drops of blood Falling to the ground in His agony Even unto death tarry ye here Watch with me Three times He uttered that prayer Three times humanity shrunk The history of human wickedness comes up before Him He sees the transgressors of the law If left to themselves must perish without any hope He sees the helplessness of man Sees the power of sin tarry ye here Watch with me Having made the decision He fell dying to the ground He drank the bitter cup for you and me
