Sitting on the front porch Watching the storm come in Thunder rolling as the rain falls down Flash of lightning now and then The leaves start to flutter The heat starts to break Oh I love these summer storms Reminds me of yesterday Growing up in Kentucky But I had to move away My father was a military man He had to go where they say And leaving tore me apart Cuz I'm a country boy at heart We had it pretty good My brothers and my friends Spent all our time feeling Like summer wouldn't end Making s'mores around the bonfire Going stomping through the creek Us Southern boys were tough as nails I think the city's made me weak And it tears me apart Cuz I'm a country boy at heart What I miss most is the people Some of best folks that I've met Us boys had formed a friendship That I won't soon forget Spent our days in the barn yard Our nights in the loft But ill still get you back, Shawn You told me the electric fence was off But still I hate that we're apart Cuz I'm a country boy at heart Yeah I'm a country boy at heart And I can't help but wonder How it would have changed my life If we never moved away If I got to grow up right Playing football for the whole town Under the Friday night lights Falling for the perfect girl From high school sweet heart to wife But instead we moved away And had to start over again Only had my family Had to say goodbye to my friends And it tore me apart Cuz I'm a country boy at heart One more thing about up north And the people that I meet They are all like their iced tea Not as good and not as sweet And it tears me apart Cause I'm a country boy at heart
