Ten-Fifteen

It's ten-fifteen he lights his last cigarette and casts his eye on the bowl of peanuts It's two stools down next to that frizzy haired girl who sips her drink like she's the princess of Venus Ten-thirty-five he waves the bartender by, she reads in Cosmo about the importance of layers And on his third try, she finally saunters by, he pays twenty dollars for a pack of Players And he says"Hey, can you slide those nuts on down?" Ten-fifty-four and the princess looks bored, she checks her watch as he licks salt off his fingers From her drink she pulls a cherry while name tag that says"Mary" passes by with a perfume that lingers He puts his cigarette down, straw makes a gurgling sound, he's not sure, but it seems the princess's pulled nearer Behind the bar, Mary looks like a star, she puts down her magazine and stares at the mirror He bets she's thinking"Hey, pretty soon I'll walk out that door This fat guy's drink will be the last I pour" Or maybe"Hey, tonight's the night that I mop the floor I wonder if there's anything good tonight on Channel four" I fall. so hard. but I don't make much of an impact I fall. so hard. but I don't make much of an impact I fall. so hard. but I don't make much of an impact I fall. so hard. but I don't make much of an impact Two-twenty-eight I guess it's getting kinda late He weighs his drink against his sense of fulfillment He thinks of catching the next train only two cigarettes remain He swirls his drink and wants to go where the thrill went Two-forty-seven music's pumped up to eleven The princess sighs and runs her hair through her fingers And as the ice cries Mary runs her palms down her thighs She puts down her magazine and stares at the mirror He bet's she's thinking"Hey, pretty soon I'll walk out that door This fat guy can't possibly drink no more" Or maybe"Hey, tonight's the night that I mop the floor I wonder if there's anything good tonight on Channel four" I fall. so hard. but I don't make much of an impact I fall. so hard. but I don't make much of an impact
