After Last Call

I've been thinking, I've been drinking And I feel I've filled my load But then again maybe just half another And then I'll hit the road I was hoping for a night of lifetime changes for a loaner But instead I'm well acquainted with the jukebox in the corner It was playing all of these songs of which I used to know the words And I still can hum the choruses though the verses are all blurred I've been cursing all my luck Although I've always had my health I once thought that I knew what love was When I put it on a shelf And so long as it was up there it was shiny and attractive When I took a closer look I was unhappy and distracted It was full of muck and scratches that I didn't see before So I tossed it from the pedestal and it crashed upon the floor Now I'm waiting for an Uber And I'm pulling my coat near me As I'm leaning on a brick wall And the ground falls up to meet me And now my bones are cold And all the liquid warmth has faded This stupid coat did nothing Cause it is old and worn and dated And the Uber's here but he pretends he doesn't see me As I stumble to my feet I see him cancel fare and leave me So I stumble to my bedroom About an hour from the bar If I hadn't fallen on the way It wouldn't be so far I'm full of muck and scratches, I'm unshaved and I'm unshowered But who has all this energy To clean up at this hour And my head starts feeling light as soon as I open the door When I wake up in the morning I was passed out on the floor All in all It wasn't that bad a night
