Sandcastles

Each grain of sand finds its place upon the map Filling in and charting out the whole universe From pools of color, five towers rise above Of which heaven and earth begin to revolve I place a lotus safe within the walls A sandcastle built to last, axis of all But then the tide comes and melts it all away Pulls the petals out to sea Leaving nothing left Nothing lasts Nothing stands past the evening tide Nothing we do stands the test of time Nothing lasts Why even try when all must pass When finally I understand that Nothing lasts Do we cry when the concert ends? Do we sigh when autumn leaves fall? Do we weep that the night must end? Or do we learn to live in the moment? Can we learn to live in the moment? Nothing lasts So I learn to love the process To guide the sand instead of the tide And feel the sun as it passes by And to know that one day I'll die because Nothing lasts Nothing lasts The tide falls as the sun starts the day The lone and level sands stretch far away
