The Nightingale And The Rose

I have a favorite story That really put me in my feelings As a thank you to Oscar Wilde I would like to retell its meanings Once upon a time There was a boy and a girl He asked her to dance But did not get her approval Unless He got her a red rose Which he did not have So defeated and depleted The boy cried to the sky And little did he know What was in disguise A nightingale heard his cries Oh so sad and terrified The nightingale flied Not wanting the boy to have his love denied Off she went to the forest Only finding a tree with a white rose She doesn't know what to do But a tree offers the nightingale a solution Sing a song on moonlight And give your blood to the rose For it to be red The nightingale does so She brings the red rose to the boy And he could not be happier The boy brings the red rose to the girl with joy And then he could not be sadder The girl rejects the boy and the red rose The gift of jewelry from another boy Was better for her she said The boy throws the red rose away Saying who needs shallow love anyway But the nightingale was already dead Souls make sacrifices That do not need to receive awards Because they already have the best prize of all Their unconditional love
