There once was a man who had everything And then someone came and took it all away It was no one less than God It was no one less than God So the man took his last shirt and turned it around And he went all alone, with his backpack and bone And sat down on a lonely stone And went quiet for seven days Then his friends gathered round and they wanted to tell him That they don’t believe in his lie and deceive That he’s sinned in his past and conflicted his fate But he felt that his friends, oh, they couldn’t relate So they all had a little talk After seven days they had a talk And so the first one said that it’s all just a test That he would only accuse himself with protest So he warns and shares from the past And then the second one said that in God we should trust That everything’s fair and the sentence is just So he should fight for his right And then the third one came and said he talked to God That his wisdom and joy, is infinitely trod But he has a plan for his recovery And then his friends gathered round and they wanted to tell him That they don’t believe in his lie and deceive So the man who had heard, when he listened these words Thought his companions opinions seemed conversely absurd But he was relieved and gay ‘Cause he finally had something to say, oh And that’s what friends are for, he said That’s what friends are for
