Spinning & Spiraling

The Sun comes up and you escape your cocoon You drive to work and into a room Then you get your fill and drive back to your house Now go back to your cocoon and become a louse And it repeats, doing backflips around the stars And it's spinning around, like a key in a car Just waiting for the spiral to triple Then maybe your fate will cause a ripple The stars, were they set by some thinking hand Or just scattered in air without any plan What if our lives are just sand washed up on a beach Waiting to return to the endless Black Sea But what if the black sea is small, like a speck in a pan And hangs in a void, far vaster than that Spinning outwards across this darkened jewel Spinning into the stars without any rule We are but one eye that floats through the dark Like a star in a galaxy, over an arc Hanging like pendant lights set in a bar No ship is advanced enough to see this radar The cycles you see, like the phase of the Moon Sweep through everything, like a pan and a broom These clocks keep winding, they will not stop And they'll make you keep running even if you drop But these clocks have grown heavy, they droop off the walls With crude tongues that hang out of their broken jaws Now they have grown dizzy, and birds come and go Pouring out their meaning, and onwards it flows
