All That Matters

A people pleaser Figured I could handle anything that they couldn't Or wouldn't want to I didn't want to But I had duty I couldn't choose My lifestyle Walk through life Miles and miles In other people's shoes Who else you know or knew See or saw Go through ups and downs for other's sake Like a seesaw No, I'm playing I know that we've all been through it Are you stupid enough to think that only you do it But I wonder why risk Being and sanity To help those in need Outside the family tree When even the family haas turmoil Letting the pot Boil over before feeling the recoil I re-oil the pan and cook something new Doing things I never thought I could do All of my Life I thought That others were All that mattered But now I see A reflection that is me And understand All that matters I gave up Everything I wanted to be To fit the mould the world laid out for me Appeased by the little praise received I never had much so a little's all I'd need To feel secure Feel like a major player Played myself Or better Played to learn my worth Worse off than a slave Didn't know I was caged Until I tried to escape Face first into the gate Gave me a new perspective Elected to eject myself from feelings I was subjected to Who knew how wide my eyes opened I was being used Only one not knowing Guess it went both ways I was looking for myself those days Lost my identity when them folks came Lost more than that But what's more than that Because I can get it all back when I get back to me All of my Life I thought That others were All that mattered But now I see A reflection that is me And understamd All that matters
