A Gambling Man's Lament

He had good luck and a little bit of money But it run out a couple days ago At some blackjack table in Reno Where they cleaned him out of all his dough It was a cold dark night in the desert Under a haloed moon He's got no place left to go back to Can't afford no hotel room So he's sleeping in the streets tonight Cant tell her where all the money went She was an awful patient woman But every month he gambled away all the rent Weren't too long 'for he took to drinkin' To chase them blues away Ever since his woman left him He ain't never been the same She left feeling lonesome Ten years ago If he died in the morning No one would know A gamblin' man's lament He died alone one morning Figured no reason left to live One foot was on the platform But the other just stepped right off the bridge
