West Virginia Rain

On a cold and rainy morning All of seven years ago I awakened Ma and Papa So that they should know When I told them I was leaving I could see it in their eyes Though they tried so hard to hide The pain inside I've seen so many places In the time I've been away But none of them could tempt me Strong enough for me to stay How I miss that open country With its rolling hills and plains And I wish that I was walking In the West Virginia rain My father, he's still living (My father, he's still living) Though his hair has turned to grey (Though his hair has turned to grey) And I hear it's been two summers (And I hear it's been two summers) Since Mama passed away (Since Mama passed away) I sometimes get to wondering Will I ever make it home?
