Dusty Heart

My dusty heart sits on a shelf Among my long-discarded things And the forgotten, broken remnants All the traces of my former self I used to laugh, I used to cry Way back when I could fall in love It seems impossible to believe I ever used to be that guy I can still see every scar Every line from every break But the one that wouldn't heal Was far too much for me to take My tears on the day she left Became a flood as time went by And my heartache wouldn't go Though I had no tears left to cry So it sits there in the dark Like some twisted piece of art They say time heals every wound But not my lonely, dusty heart I walk in darkness day and night Although the sun is shining down I'm neither hot or cold; without purpose Moving untouched by the light I brought fresh flowers for her yesterday I knelt before her on the ground Whispered"I love you", slowly stood And took the withered ones away I can still see every scar Every line from every break But the one that wouldn't heal Was far too much for me to take My tears on the day she left Became a flood as time went by And my heartache wouldn't go Though I had no tears left to cry So it sits there in the dark Like some twisted piece of art They say time heals every wound But not my lonely, dusty heart
