A billionaire in a cowboy hat rides his rocket into space 60 miles up he's looking down on the human race More money hoarded away than he could ever spend His billions won't buy back his soul when it all comes to an end Something's gotta change A single mother works three jobs and she's barely making rent Her hungry kids won't eat tonight because every damn penny's spent A rich man in his mansion on the hill he's got money to burn A person's worth should not depend on how much they can earn Something's gotta change You wanna see a change in the world you gotta be it I hope humanity still has time and I hope I live to see it I don't have any answers though I really wish I did The world's become a greedy place since the days when I was a kid A decorated homeless veteran freezes in the street His tattered coat won't keep him warm and he can't get enough to eat He stepped up when his country called, he proudly served his time Now all he gets is"thank you for your service", now get back in line Something's gotta change We pass judgement on total strangers hiding behind our screens Social media and the internet have given us the means Everyone is looking to add more followers to their feed With a whole damn world of followers someone's got to lead Something's gotta change You wanna see a change in the world you gotta be it I hope humanity still has time though I might not live to see it I don't have any answers though I really wish I did The world's become a lonely place since the days when I was a kid When did lying become a virtue and compromise a sin How can we be so blind to all the trouble that we're in Why do we follow those who sell divisiveness and hate We better make some changes soon it may be too late Something's gotta change A high school kid works the drive through barely making minimum wage A few bucks an hour to deal with all the insults threats and rage Battle lines are forming on the left and on the right Anyone who crosses over must be looking for a fight Something's gotta change You wanna see a change in the world you gotta be it I hope humanity still has time though I doubt I'll live to see it I don't have any answers though I really wish I did The world's become an angry place since the days when I was a kid
