Dardanelles at Dawn

Through blind shuttered windows On through to my balcony I see the frothing bow of a Tall Ship Nestle into Shore side Quay She gleams white on blue crystal Sealed with a sea breeze kiss T'is fond memories of Chios That I treasure with this And I'm sailing where my Grandfather sailed He saw this beauty, but with a different tale to tell And I'm wondering, now well how did he feel Standing on the bridge behind the armored wheel I say goodbye to the Parakeet And pay the man one last time Rushing out onto the street below To hear the quay bell peal a chime I can still smell the coffee grinds and with ears open wide I can hear the stone harbor Trying to catch the morning tide And I'm sailing where my Grandfather sailed He saw this beauty, but with a different tale to tell And I'm wondering, now well how did he feel Standing on the bridge behind the armored wheel Sailing through a headwind Bruised pastel colors to behold Of crimson grey blue hills of Islands Whispering stories some untold Dardanelles at dawn cast a spell on me With a web, so finely spun They'll be reaching out to tell on me Many a deed here's been done She glides forth, waves slice her keel I'm transfixed to the bow of the deck All this and all the more she calls I feel As the sea cuts to the nape of her neck And I'm sailing where my Grandfather sailed He saw this beauty, but with a different tale to tell And I'm wondering, now well how did he feel Standing on the bridge behind the armored wheel
