Dragonfly

Holding my hands above my head Running through the lawn Shimmer summer Golden hair I was five years old Putting all my precious things underneath my shirt Trying to collect the pretty rocks Put them in my can Being caught in the haze of a southern sky Being totally amazed by a dragonfly So I followed it on down to the riverside Where I heard it hit the ground and I watched it die And I didn't think that I would ever be the same But the morning after was time enough I couldn't meet her gaze as she said that I Can't stay in just one place I keep flying by And I heard myself say As she said goodbye You'll come crashing down to earth Like the dragonfly And I didn't think that I would ever be the same But the morning after was time enough
