I know what you're thinking That I don't know my worth because of all I've put up with See, I never said I'm not a mermaid But that you've never cared for me as the rarity that I am Priceless In a love that has made me lifeless You see me as... catfish Easily attainable Readily available... to anyone You forget that I don't have to reveal myself And doing so jeopardizes my overall health And yet I have... for you Put myself on the line to be reeled and caught Subconsciously taught that To you, I'm just a catfish and If I don't fulfill or satisfy That you can just toss me in the trash And find yourself another Bottom feeder But consider this What happens when a mermaid realizes that man is no good for her That against her better judgement the inevitable did occur That she's been taken for granted Promises recanted Pulled from beauty and flung into waters disenchanted Made to feel less beautiful than the basic When their filtered best couldn't touch her mosaic I know my worth I can't be traded And I won't be jaded I am worth the breath you took At first site of my image in the deep blue And the one that stops your heart As you witness my breathtaking adieu
