That man was taller than you his sunken shoulders didn't show the things that time remembers but memory withholds But I remember pennywhistles, frankincense, and cardomom and sage and how we knew each other less and less with every passing day because despite our best intentions all the color bled away You know I never wondered why I guess I didn't mind You're still this thing I never knew I guess that I am too You painted me a portrait of a person you remembered from the train in a soaking wet tuXedo with his head up to the rain and hung it up in our apartment in a wooden picture frame Now and then I thought about that picture and of who we were before and how we spent our better years simply waiting to be born hiding under our umbrellas, seeking shelter from the storm You know I never wondered why I guess I didn't mind You're still this thing I never knew I guess that I am too
