I Watched Them Fall Away

They fastened tightly to a falling star Descended like the shimmer on a steel guitar Across the heavens to these fields of earth To wake us up and show us what our world was worth I watched them fall away An epic trip across the black of space To hold a magnifying mirror to our twisted face Highlight the error of the path we chose And try to change our tune before we decompose So would we listen to the truth they spoke? Or see their words as punchline to a cosmic joke? More likely treat them with disdain and fear And meme 'n' mock their message in the Twittersphere I watched them fall away We scorned their warning, it was 'too profound' Our telescopes are always turned the wrong way round They tried to show the needle dancing in the red But we were busy staring at ourselves instead I watched them fall away They faded into grey/just a shadow play/diminish and decay Yeah they faded into grey/They faded into grey They faded into grey/They faded into grey
