Down The Line

Always left me wondering Never could be sure 'Bout your real intentions And your fancy overtures Well, I've seen a thing or three In this life of mine But I ain't gonna waste any of my time Pining over you, 'cause you can't walk the line Never could wrap my head Around your point of view I shut my mouth and shake my head You know that much is true But the words keep coming Like an open flood gate And leaves us all drowning In the words of the insane So take a breath and take a rest And walk it on down the line For years I tried to understand Just what it was I'd seen But the more I look, the more I found It's part of the machine To always keep you guessing And never to come clean So you trade your virtue For something more obscene Your guess is good as mine So head on down the line These days I've no idea What I should expect Or if it's even possible To get out of this mess But if "love is love" is a doctrine you profess Then it seems your found yourself a pathway to success So hold your head up high When you're walking down the line
