Welcome to the New Normal

When we first started dying, it was just another day, oh, yeah When they first started lying, sayin' this plague would soon fade away, oh And the death toll mounted, while the leaders dragged their feet oh With the truth discounted, only lies could then compete, oh Some say that things will never be the same And we have only ourselves to blame And if these words of mine sound sad and apathetic when the ship of state is slowly sinking down I'm just hoping that they're not somehow prophetic When there's no one left to save us if we drown Just take a look around, welcome to the new normal When we first started dying, we all hid ourselves away, oh yeah When we first stopped trying, to stay safe, and we all went out to play, oh yeah All the planes were grounded, with our leaders in retreat, oh We were all confounded by the rhetoric, and tweets, oh They fiddled long enough to feed the flames And we were pawns in that two faced game And so I'm taking time to point this naked truth out Please forgive my blunt assessment of this scheme Yet they clearly dropped the ball, and there is no doubt That its time understand just what this means I'll say it clear and clean, welcome to the new normal Maybe time will heal us in the end When the hatred fades and darkness runs away And our broken hearts and souls begin to mend When the dawn of love breaks through and comes to stay Until that day, welcome to the new normal
