I was taught wrong, I wasn't taught right I was taught how to hide, how to stay out of the light I was taught about masks, I was taught how not to ask Taught to run away from a daunting task As I got older, I had more lies to shoulder I tried to keep up with my own pace, but I guess I beat myself at my own race I got so lost after every line I crossed, it was just about me, me and my fantasy Feel like a Butterfly Baby spread your wings we're gonna fly Stuck inside this cocoon, I feel freedom coming soon Have you ever felt so much pain that it actually hurts Have you ever dug deep, broke your nails in the dirt They say you hit bottom when you stop digging I guess I finally decided to start living I stopped trying to seek and find in you, the necessary energy for me to pull through I didn't know that life could change so fast, I didn't know I didn't have to live in my past And though our wings may be folded and creased, and every voice screams of defeat There is a voice beyond me, take flight, be free Feel like a Butterfly Baby spread your wings we're gonna fly Stuck inside this cocoon, I feel freedom coming soon
