In This Town

Where am I gonna go in this town? When there's nothing that I can afford I'm trynna find my own piece of ground, is it too much that I'm asking for Cause every time I start to look around, it's like back to the drawing board So where am I gonna go in this town? Better stop and ask the Lord I been trynna keep my head to the sky, my head to the sky But it's so hard to do it when, the rent's too high, rent's too high I was thinking we could buy a place, cause I'm 'bout that age, in this life stage But it's not how it used to be, cause the city done changed, this place done changed What does it mean to have a home, in a neighborhood where you're all alone What happens in a community, where people pay to rent, but not to own How do I protect myself, without the equity I need for building wealth And whose job is to fix it all? Where would I even start? Who even can I call Where'm I gonna go in this town? Better stop and ask the Lord What if I kneel down and pray and Ask the Lord to help me find a way and What if I kneel and face the sun And do what Jesus did, not my will but yours be done If I remember what the Bible said, the son of Man had no place to lay his head That means I'm in good company, and if I trust in God, He's gonna come for me Maybe I might never own a home here, but it doesn't mean my life is all alone here Maybe life is more than just a mortgage, and if I think it's not, joy I'm gonna forfeit Maybe there's a place where they can take a man, treat him with dignity and help him with a saving plan Maybe if I'm steadfast and patient, then I can get some help with a down payment I know that my credit score is not that great But maybe I can find a way to rebuild So maybe I could get a decent interest rate And maybe with some help, improve my budget skills And maybe if our leaders can be purposeful Then there will be more homes that are affordable Cause it ain't gotta be super fancy, it just gotta be big enough for a family Where'm I gonna go in this town? Cause when I'm ready, then I'm gonna choose I'm trynna find my own piece of ground, even if I don't find it soon Cause every time I start to look around, I find ways that I can improve So where'm I gonna go in this town?
